What are duplicate mapping errors and why do they occur?
Duplicate mapping are critical errors that mean you can not file your report as a valid ESEF report and must therefore be fixed. They are displayed in the in-tool validation in the Tagger as well as in the validation report.
There are two details that need attention to avoid duplicate mapping errors:
- XBRL value
- Date
If the same value is reported more than once for the same period, you can apply the same tag on all instances but will need to ensure they all have the same date in the Properties tab and the same XBRL value.
Please note that the following settings will impact the XBRL value, therefore you will need to ensure consistency:
- Sign logic
- Scale
- Number or Date Format
How to troubleshoot duplicate mapping errors:
- Use the Mapping Report to identify and troubleshoot specific tags causing duplicate mapping errors. Filtering and searching within the report can help pinpoint issues quickly.
- Verify that you are using the appropriate tag. Incorrect tagging is a common source of validation errors.
- Determine if an extension taxonomy element is necessary, however we recommend that you always consult with your auditors to ensure compliance.
- Ensure that all numerical values are correct in your tables. Inaccurate numbers can lead to validation issues and misinterpretation of data.
- Ensure member tags are correctly applied in the Statement of Changes in Equity.
